An article published in The Buffalo News on Thursday by Alan Pergament stated that Rick Jeanneret will be returning to the broadcast booth for the 2019-2020 season.
You can read the full article here.
Here’s a snippet of what Jeanneret had to say:
“I enjoy what has happened so far, except for the fact they haven’t made the playoffs in eight years. I still am the ultimate believer. And I think they are very close to being pretty darn good and not that far away from being awfully good.” – Jeanneret
At nearly 77 years old, Jeanneret also expressed in the article that the job has been getting more difficult for him, mentioning his eyes and reaction time to everything has been slowing down, which is nothing unusual for someone of that age.
Still, the Sabres are starting their 50th season, and fans will get to hear Jeanneret’s voice once again. He’s been such a mainstay and it’s hard to imagine games without him. As good as Dan Dunleavy has been, hearing the fact that RJ expects to call about half the games this year is very exciting.
This video I made is from years ago, but it still captures some of the best calls and moments from Jeanneret:
