The Sabres had a chance to end their losing streak and split the Global Series with the Tampa Bay Lightning, but they were held to just two goals for the second straight game during Saturday’s 5-2 loss.

Buffalo trailed by a 3-2 score in the third period for the second straight game, but they had some more time to try and tie it up this time. However, it was the Lightning who scored a couple of goals to take a commanding lead.

Sam Reinhart was one of the few bright spots for Buffalo’s offense, scoring his third goal in two days to give Buffalo a lead.

But the Lightning stormed back to score three straight goals, including one with just two seconds remaining in the middle period.

Victor Olofsson scored the other Buffalo goal and his first that was not scored on a power play:

Jack Eichel added a late Buffalo goal with Carter Hutton pulled in the final minute. The play was reviewed but deemed to be onsides so the goal stood.

The Sabres have lost five in a row and six of the last seven and are falling the standings.

The Sabres are off until Thursday so they’ll have some time to get home and regroup before hosting the Carolina Hurricanes. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
