Sabres can’t slow down Flyers

One team came in riding an eight-game winning streak while the other was on a five-game losing streak. Both of those streaks continued as the Sabres dropped a 3-1 decision to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.

This was a game where the Sabres were in it. They hung in there with a red-hot team and gave them all they could handle. But the third period turned out to be the difference as the Flyers scored a pair of goals.

The team is in another late-season free fall and it appears they’re just going to go through the motions for the rest of the season.

Sure, they’ve played a better overall game a few times recently, but they’re not earning wins.

The Sabres didn’t play poorly, but they couldn’t take advantage of several Flyers penalties.

Buffalo hasn’t been able to score more than two goals in any of their past seven games, and that’s never going to be a recipe for success. They’re 1-6 over that span.

Carter Hutton played well until this happened:

Dominik Kahun scored Buffalo’s only goal on a very nice passing play:

The Sabres still have not earned a point since the Trade Deadline as they have now dropped six consecutive games.

Jack Eichel was held pointless again. He has had a great chance to add-on to his career highs, but he’s been very quiet lately.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier. Buffalo will host the Washington Capitals on Monday night at 7 pm.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
