Report: Sabres sign Tobias Rieder

The Sabres took about three hours into Free Agent Friday to make a move, and it wasn’t a big one.

They reportedly signed Tobias Rieder to a 1-year deal worth $700,000. It’s a one-way deal.

He’s a depth signing who won’t score many goals, but the biggest plus may be his penalty-killing ability. Former Calgary Flames Head Coach Bill Peters said Rieder was “elite” in that area, and that’s something the Sabres could definitely use.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
