Hi everyone,
If you haven’t noticed yet, things at Buffalo Hockey Central have slowed way down. There has been a long gap between posts, and we haven’t updated much of anything on this site or on social media.
I wanted to address that and make it known that we will be stepping back quite a bit. I’m not saying the site is getting shut down, but I will only be doing the very basic tasks to keep this up and running, at least for right now.
Personally, I’ve run into some very difficult and important life decisions, and I haven’t had the amount of free time (not even close) I wanted to devote to this site. It had started becoming much more of a chore and a job, and I even stopped looking forward to some of it.
This has seemingly happened to a lot of Sabres blogs and sites over the last 5-10 years. I always saw others run into some personal/life issues, and now I finally recognize or realize what some of those things can be.
I’m 33 and have a daughter. It’s important to me that I focus on what makes me happy, and right now, this isn’t it. BHC was a huge outlet and a really enjoyable experience consistently for about 7-8 years. I loved it. We earned press credentials and really got some traction on here, and I was very proud of it. I still am. Over the last couple of seasons, I started to lose time and interest, and it became rushed and more of something that I felt I had to do.
The truth is, though, I don’t have to do this at all. It’s honestly more relieving and freeing for me to step away. The last couple of Covid-ridden seasons haven’t helped any of this either. And the Sabres haven’t made the playoffs in nearly 4,000 days… that’s a part of it, too.
I do enjoy writing, and I may still use this as a platform to publish some work, but you won’t see game recaps here, weekly articles, things like that for this season, at the least. I’m finding more joy in other areas of my life during gamenights, and most nights I find that I would rather just watch (or not watch) as a fan, and not have to worry about writing and publishing a recap.
This site means a lot to me, and I hope that you enjoyed at least some of what you have seen here.
I will be running the Pick ‘Em Contest again, and I’ll be keeping some of the basic stat pages up to date. But don’t expect anything more than that for now.
I’ll be watching this team and will continue following them for sure. I don’t see this site ever getting a full revival, but you never know. We’ll see what happens. I just know I need to shift my attention to some other areas and work on improving things for myself, and my family.
