Miller vs. Marty: Round 2
Ryan Miller and Martin Biron faced each other this past Saturday, with Biron getting a 38 save shutout. At the other end, Miller was pulled midway through the game and sat on the bench watching the rest. The Islanders beat buffalo 5-0.
After four days to prepare for round two back in Buffalo, Miller was at the top of his game. He blanked the Islanders to help give Buffalo a 3-0 win. Miller stopped all 24 shots for his 9th win of the season, earning him his second shutout of the season.
These two teams will only meet one more time this season; in January. Buffalo has won two of the first three.
Look who decided to show up!
It took 11 games, but Derek Roy finally netted his first goal of the season. His celebration was a little more intense than usual. He has scored in many games before, but after the drought, it meant much more.
Roy also won all 14 of his faceoffs; the entire Sabres team won 39 out of 47 draws. The Islanders only managed to win eight faceoffs?!?! That is one of the main reasons the Islanders dropped to 5-5-5 on the season.
Thomas Vanek also ended his scoring drought. Although it was only five games, it is unusual for Vanek to go that long without scoring.
Paul Gaustad added one more in the third, putting Buffalo up 3-0.
The Sabres improved to 9-2-1, third in the Eastern Conference.
With the win, Buffalo increased their lead in the Northeast Division to five. The Sabres have allowed 24 goals on the season, by far the best in the NHL. The next closest is the Devils, who have allowed 30.
The Sabres will stay home and host the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night.
