The past three Stanley Cup winning teams started that season overseas. The Sabres are only hoping to continue that trend, and after a 2-0 start, they certainly look like a more complete team than last year.
The five days off prior to the opener could do the Sabres good. The though of coming home and playing in front of a home crowd should be enough for the team to be motivated and play well.
When you win a pair of games and allow just three goals, everything seems to be going right. The power play is working, penalty killing looked good, there is spread scoring and Ryan Miller is a rock in net.
Those are the types of games Sabres fans want to see all season long. In the first four preseason games, the Sabres allowed just five goals. If Buffalo can continue to hold opponents to one or two goal a game, it will have no problem racking up the wins.
The Sabres defeated two very good teams in Anaheim and Los Angeles. Taking a win from both of them was a difficult task that Buffalo made easy. The fact that the Kings started Jonathan Bernier over Quick may have favored Buffalo a bit, but Bernier isn’t a bad backup.
Now, the Sabres head home for Friday’s game against Carolina. After that, it’s a four game road trip where Buffalo will face Pittsburgh, Montreal and Florida before beginning a home and home series with Tampa Bay.
