Where we were a year ago

30 games into the season, and the Sabres are hovering around the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. While injuries have piled up and hampered the Sabres’ starting lineup, fans are still wondering when this team will get it together.

Last season, Buffalo were off to an even worse start then they are now. 30 games in during the 2010-2011 season, the Sabres were 12-14-4 as they headed into a game against Boston

The Sabres were riding a streak of 4-2-1 and beat the Sharks. We all know what happened the rest of the year. The Sabres kept losing, but used a late surge to propel themselves into the postseason picture.

Now, 30 games in, the Sabres are 15-12-3 for 33 points. They had 28 points at this mark last year.

15-12-3 is not too impressive, especially considering nine of those are regulation losses on home ice.

You can consider the team back to .500. The overtime and shootout losses are still losses, so the team would basically be 15-15 with a couple of extra points.

The team was doing worse last season, so if Buffalo made the playoffs then, there’s no reason they can’t do it this year. If the team can earn some W’s now, they should be able to improve as the injured players return.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
