Sweden is looking to defend the medal that it won back in Torino during 2006. It will be a tall task, but that isn’t the only challenge Sweden will face.
Russia, Canada, and the United States are all hoping to take the gold this year. As Daniel and Henrik Sedin play in front of their home crowd in Sweden, the opposing teams will bring in a number of strong players.
Team USA will have Ryan Miller in goal, attempting to lead the team to its first gold medal win since 1980. USA has been looked at as in underdog already, especially when they have been compared to other teams.
The Russian team will feature players such as Alexander Ovechkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Evgeni Malkin, Pavel Datsyuk, Evgeni Nabokov, and many others. They look to have the most big name players from the NHL.
Canada’s biggest star is Sidney Crosby as they will look to put up a fight as well. They will also bring in Jerome Iginla, Rick Nash, Dany Heatley, Martin Brodeur, and many others.
This is just a short preview at some of the top players in the Olympics. All of these teams and others will support their countries and play in a nationwide tournament, an experience of a lifetime.
We will provide you with previews in the next couple of days. Be sure to check back for game recaps for all team USA’s game. The games will begin on Tuesday. Good luck to all of the Olympians.
