Joel Armia agrees to 3-year ELC

Reports floating around the Internet and Twitter are telling a very interesting story for the Buffalo Sabres organization.

According to Swedish news outlets, the Buffalo Sabres have signed 2011 first-round pick Joel Armia to a three-year entry level contract. CapGeek has reported that the deal is worth around $3.825 million.

This is a very fluid situation for many different reasons. First off, Armia had until yesterday to agree to terms with the Sabres organization. Secondly, he is still under contract with Assat of the SM-liiga. And no matter the contract, Armia was expected to stay in Finland until the 2013 season is completed due to his current contract and his military obligations.

Stay tuned to Sabres Hockey Central for the latest news on the developing Joel Armia situation.

UPDATE: The Buffalo Sabres officially announced the Armia signing a little after 9 PM.”We’ve been very impressed by Joel’s ability to make an impact in a professional league at such a young age,” said Sabres GM Darcy Regier said. “His combination of size, skill and potential makes us hopeful that he will be a valuable asset to our organization for a number of years.”
