The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenseman Josh Gorges in a trade with Montreal for a 2nd round pick in 2016. That pick was part of the trade that sent Matt Moulson and Cody McCormick to Minnesota.
Gorges had a no-trade clasuse, but waived it to come to Buffalo. Gorges turned down a trade to Toronto, a rival he has been playing against.
“I’ve grown to hate this team. To play against them, how could I really go and put my heart and soul into it?”
Gorges wore the “A” for Montreal and has played 560 career games, totaling 98 points (14 goals, 84 assists). Gorges is signed for the next four seasons with a cap hit of $3.9 million and has quickly filled in an empty slot on the blue line with the departure of Christian Ehrhoff.
Tim Murray’s first move of the day shows that he is finding players committed to the rebuild, and Gorges is one of them.
