Less than one minute into Friday night’s game against the Detroit Red Wings, defenseman Jake McCabe fell hard into the boards and left with an injury.
Here’s another look:
He did return, but then headed right back to the dressing room. The injury caused the Sabres to rely on five defensemen for the rest of the night. Rasmus Ristolainen finished with 35:24 of ice time, a career high for him. It’s also the highest in the NHL since Erik Karlsson on December 20, 2015.
After the game, head coach Dan Byslma said that McCabe would have to be evaluated on Saturday and that a defenseman will be called up. Byslma also said he does not believe it will be Brendan Guhle.
