Today, the Sabres announced that the defenseman will be out for the remainder of the season after having surgery on his shoulder. He is expected to miss four to six months.
“Jake has been progressing well in his recovery from his previous injury, but we decided that this was a good opportunity to take care of a problem that he has been dealing with for a while.” – Jason Botterill
“Jake will have time to fully recover before the beginning of the 2018-19 season.”
Originally, he was only expected to be out three to four weeks after thumb surgery.
McCabe hadn’t missed a game all season prior to these injuries. The Sabres are also without Zach Bogosian for the rest of the year.
In 53 games this season, McCabe has three goals and nine assists.
