The Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins have completed a trade that sends Conor Sheary and Matt Hunwick to Buffalo for a 2019 4th round pick. That pick can become a third if Sheary scores 20 goals or 40 pts, or Buffalo trades Hunwick before the 2019 draft.
Sheary is a winger who the Sabres desperately need. In 79 games last year, he posted 30 points (18 goals, 12 assists). The year prior, he had his best season to date, scoring 23 goals and 30 assists in 61 games. Buffalo hopes he can get back to that level. He also comes with 57 games of playoff experience, including a big goal in the Stanley Cup Final.

The Sabres also got Hunwick in the deal. He’s a veteran defenseman who has played for five different teams.

“Conor has proven himself to be a reliable forward with an ability to come through in big games, whose playoff experience speaks for itself,” Botterill said. “Conor and Matt will bring a winning pedigree to our team, and we expect them both to complement our group very well.” – Jason Botterill
With Sheary & Hunwick heading to Buffalo, we now have the #Sabres with a roster of 15 (9/6/0) and $18,440,476 in projected cap space.
As for the #Penguins, this trade gives the club $10,282,500 projected cap space, while reducing their tentative roster to 17 (10/5/2). pic.twitter.com/raRcbfbMbW

I will take this moment to remind you that Matt Moulson is still a $5m cap hit through the end of this upcoming season. Sheary for $3m seems like a steal in comparison.
