The Sabres had a chance to move two games over .500, but dropped a 4-1 decision against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday night.
It was a late game for fans on the east coast as puck drop wasn’t until 10 p.m. Those who decided to go to bed instead of staying up past midnight may have made the better choice.
The Sabres were outplayed right from the start and couldn’t get any sort of momentum going against the team they beat once already this season.
It appeared as if the Sabres would be playing from behind early, but Buffalo elected to challenge the play and the call was reversed as the Golden Knights were ruled offside prior to the goal.
Jonathan Marchessault scored two goals on the night – the first and the last – to give the Golden Knights the victory.
Buffalo’s only goal came off the stick of Vladimir Sobotka in the final minute of the third period, his first as a Sabre.
Special teams was a problem for the Sabres again, going 0-for-6 on the power play and allowing a shorthanded goal.
“We missed an assignment on the PK, and our power play let us down.” – Phil Housley
The Sabres continue their five-game road trip with a matchup against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. It’s another late game with puck drop schedule for 10:30 p.m. EST.
