56-game season is the new hope

As the 2020 year is coming to an end, we all knew the chances of an 82-game regular season became slimmer and slimmer. Many of us were thinking there wouldn’t be any 2020-21 season at all, and maybe there still won’t be.

But there were reports recently that stated the NHL is looking at a 52 or 56-game regular season schedule with a start date of mid-January. That’s not too far away, so if that is the plan, things need to happen in a hurry.

If you have access to The Athletic, there’s a great article that goes over the details here.

This is the only real news we have heard regarding a season, and it’s very tentative right now. The NHL and NHLPA have a lot to work through with not only each other but a pandemic that may be a lot worse by the end of December.

Right now, this is a week-to-week process and hopefully, we can start to hear more positive news.

We’re looking forward to Sabres hockey again, as long as it can be done safely.

I founded Buffalo Hockey Central in 2008 and have poured hours and hours into this site. Luckily, we have a great team of writers and designers who have helped keep this up and running despite a ton of out-of-pocket costs. We do this because we enjoy it, and we're desperate to see the Sabres win the Cup someday, but they have to make the playoffs first.
