Reverse Standings

The Buffalo Sabres have a 13.5% chance of getting the 1st overall pick.

Unlike recent years, finishing among the bottom of the league does not guarantee the first overall pick, or even the second. Obviously, the further down the standings your team is, the better chance they have at a higher pick.

The NHL will utilize a lottery system to determine the first three picks. That means that whomever finishes last in the league could pick as late as fourth in the first round.

Auston Matthews is the biggest name going around, but there are other players that the Sabres could get with a pick in the top five. However, after finishing 30th in the league and not winning the first overall pick, fans are hoping that the third time is a charm.

We’ll update this page with more information as the season continues.
