After coming off an impressive 4-2 victory over the Boston Bruins Thursday evening at the First Niagara Center, The Buffalo Sabres travel to the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and try to grab both games of their home-and-home series against the Bruins tonight.
The Sabres played one of their best overall games of the season Thursday night with a sixty minute effort from all four lines. Marcus Foligno showed why he can become a dominant power forward in the league with his best game of the season, picking up one goal, one assist, and the games second star (Brian Flynn and Drew Stafford picked up the other two). Foligno also set the tone on the physical end of his game with a fight with Boston’s Matt Fraser just 3:37 into the opening period. Tyler Myers continued his streak of good play grabbing the fourth goal of the game and his third of the season. Myers continues his improving defensive play and has been jumping up with the offense every chance he gets. On the downside, one of Buffalo’s leading scorers, Cody Hodgson, left the game with what is said to be an upper body injury and could be out of the line up for an extended length of time.
The Bruins will be looking for their seventh straight home win against the Sabres tonight. Head coach Claude Julien has his Bruins sitting on top of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, 27 points ahead of the Sabres. Buffalo will need to continue their recent offensive surge (four goals in each of the last two games), if they want to pick up the two points at stake. Boston comes into the game second ranked in the goals against average at 2.1.
If Buffalo can come away with a victory tonight it will be the team’s first three game winning streak since last April. This will be the third of five meetings between the two clubs this season with each team coming away with a victory. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 and can be seen on MSG
