The Buffalo Sabres will play their final game of their seven-game homestand on tonight as they take on the New York Rangers.
Season series: This is the third and final meeting between the clubs this season. Each team has won on its home ice earlier this year, each by a 3-1 margin.
Buffalo notes:
With a win on Friday night over the Rangers the Sabres could pick up nine out of a possible 14 points on the homestand, putting up a 3-2-1 record over their previous 6 outings.
The team has definitely tightened up play in their defensive end since Sam Reinhart called out the team. Buffalo has only allowed five goals over their last three games.
Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner continue to lead the team on the offensive end. Eichel is currently on his 3rd six-game point streak of the season, picking up two goals and six assists over that stretch. Skinner has three goals in his last four games and remains 2nd in the league in goals with 34, only trailing Alex Ovechkin’s 38.
Rangers notes:
When the Rangers hit the ice Friday night against the Sabres it will be their second stop on a four-game road trip. The Rangers fell to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night, 4-3, and have lost four of their last six contests.
Mike Zibanejad continues to lead the Rangers offensively, totaling 13 goals in his last 11 games.
Starting goaltenders: It is expected that Carter Hutton will get the start for the Sabres on Friday night and Alexandar Georgiev will be in net for the Rangers. Georgiev is coming off a 56-save performance against the Maple Leafs last Sunday.
