After splitting last weekend on the road with a win over Syracuse and a loss against Springfield, Rochester headed into the week with three games, including a two-game homestand against Providence and Binghamton, a conference and division foe. They end the weekend by traveling to Utica and face a formidable rival within their division and attempt to gain some ground in the standings.

October 30: vs. Providence (L 4-3)
Playing in the first of two home games this week, Rochester was looking to rebound from losing to the Bruins earlier this season in Providence. Unfortunately, they did not get off to the best start, trailing 3-0 after two periods, despite a 19-18 lead in shots on goal. Robert Lantosi scored the lone goal for Providence in the first period on the power play, while Jack Studnicka scored a short-hander and Zach Senyshyn scored with the man advantage to make it a three-goal lead after two. The Amerks started to rally in the third, with C.J. Smith (3) and Sean Malone (3) scoring under a minute in, but Paul Carey helped grow the Bruins lead, and despite a Kevin Porter (3) goal with a few minutes to go, Carey’s goal would be the game-winner as Rochester would lose 4-3.

Jonas Johansson, who made the start, finished with 22 saves in the game. The Amerks will look to end this homestand on Friday when they host the Binghamton Devils at Blue Cross Arena.
November 1: vs. Binghamton (W 4-2)
After losing their second straight game to Providence, the Amerks hosted the Binghamton Devils on Friday to end their losing streak. Rochester came out of the gate, with a 14-5 edge after the first, and Casey Nelson scored his first of the year with three and a half minutes left in the opening period, and also scored with under five minutes to go in the second and doubled their lead to 2 after forty minutes of play.

In the final period, Jean-Sebastian Dea (5) scored to increase their lead to 3. Egor Sharangovich put the Devils on the board with over six minutes remaining in the third. Two goals were scored in the final seconds, with Remie Elie (2) scoring an empty-net goal that ultimately sealed the game for Rochester.

While Fabian Zetterlund shrunk the deficit back to 2, it wasn’t enough, as the Amerks won 4-2. Andrew Hammond made 27 saves on 29 shots faced in the start, improving to 5-1-1 on the year. Rochester would travel to Utica and face the Comets the following day.
November 2: @ Utica (W 6-0)
The Amerks traveled to Utica, looking to respond after their 7-1 loss last month. They got off to a hot start, with three goals scored in the opening 20 minutes. Brett Murray (2) opened the scoring under five minutes in. With five minutes to go in the first, Casey Nelson was penalized for tripping, but Scott Wilson (3) buried a short-handed goal after receiving a cross-ice pass from Casey Fitzgerald.

Rasmus Asplund scored his first goal of the season at the 18:59 mark and finished the period leading 3-0. The Amerks repeated their efforts in the next period, with Curtis Lazar (3) scoring a short-handed goal, followed by a power-play goal scored by Tage Thompson (5) nearly halfway through the game, off assists from Lawrence Pilut and Kevin Porter.

Jarrett Burton scored his first goal of the year at the 16:02 mark and concluded the scoring in this game. Despite trailing to Utica in shots 12-7 in the third period, Andrew Hammond played one of his best games of the year, leading the Amerks to a 6-0 shutout on the road and being named the game’s First Star. In the win, he improved to 6-1-1 on the year and earned his first shutout of the season.
The Amerks head into next week with a 7-3-1-1 overall record, totaling 16 points and third place in their division. After earning two straight wins over the weekend, Rochester will only play one game this week, as they welcome Binghamton back after earning a win over the Devils this past week. As the Sabres travel to Sweden for the NHL Global Series, Lawrence Pilut and Andrew Hammond were called up and will travel with the team for their series against the Lightning.
